Newsletter No.1

Dear Parents/Carers

Welcome back to the start of our new academic year. We hope you all had an enjoyable summer!

We would like to welcome our new Reception children, Tom, Woody, Carl, Lily and Henry and wish them much success and happiness in their time with us.

This year, Caroline Buttivent from Kingsmead will be continuing the French and German lessons with the Key Stage 2 children and these will now be on Monday mornings. Music and instrument lessons with Chris Beattie will continue on Friday mornings, starting next week. If your child is interested in taking up an instrument, please speak to me.

Data Collection Sheets
This year?s sheets are attached for you to check and amend if necessary. Could I urge you all to examine these carefully, especially the emergency contact details, as this is the information we are relying on if your child is unwell or has an accident in school. Please return the signed forms by the end of next week. Many thanks.

S.A.S.P. (Somerset Activity & Sports Partnership)
This is continuing on Thursday afternoons, as well as our usual trip to Wellington Sports Centre to use the swimming/P.E. facilities on Wednesday mornings. Swimming payment requests will be sent out next week for those children in Years 4-6. Would you please ensure that your child has the correct kit with them for these days. Thank you.

Clubs
The following clubs will be held, starting next week:-
Monday Golf with Neil Mossman 3.15-4.15pm.
Tuesday Kwik Cricket with Ben Wellington (Somerset Cricket Club) 3.15-4.15pm. (£2.50 per session paid direct to Ben each week)
Wednesday Tag Rugby (Taunton Rugby Club) 3.15-4.15pm. If your child wishes
to take part in this, please complete and return the attached slip by Tuesday, as the club is only viable with 8 children or more. The cost will be £2 or £2.50 per session, depending on how many take part.
Thursday S.A.S.P Club with Karen Jones 3.15-4.15pm. Once again, if your child wants to take part, please complete and return the attached slip by Wednesday, as we need at least 8 children to take part. Once again the cost will be either £2 or £2.50 per week depending on numbers. This term, the club will be focusing on football.
Friday Chess Club with Karen Janus and Card Club with Miss Gabriel 3.15-4pm.
Children can take part in any of these clubs from Year 1 upwards. If your child
wants to attend any of these, please complete and return the relevant slip
at the end of this letter.

New Child Car Seat Regulations
These are coming into force from 18th September this year, with children under
12 and less than 135cm (4? 5?) in height, required to use an appropriate child
seat in cars. This includes the use of booster seats/cushions for children over
40 pounds in weight and under 4? 5? tall who are too small to use adult seat
belts. This will obviously impact upon us when we use staff and parent transport
to events or other venues, as any children who come under the new restrictions
will need their booster seat for these occasions.

Fundraising
-The Clay Pigeon Shoot last term raised £325 which is fantastic and I would
like to say a very big ?thank you? to Phil and Jackie White for organising this.
-The next Friends of Stawley School fundraising event is a meal at The Globe
during the evening of Sunday 17th September from 7pm. The cost is £13.95 per
head for a main course and dessert, with £5.50 from each meal going to
F.O.S.S. (see attached menu). Children by arrangement only. If you would
like to come along, please book your table direct with The Globe on 672327. I
hope to see most of you there.
- F.O.S.S. are holding their AGM here at school on Tuesday 19th September,
7.30pm start. New committee members would be very welcome, so please come
along if you are interested.

Thank you to everyone who helped out at the Leavers Barbecue at the
end of last term. Also referring back to last term, I thought I would just confirm that we did not get enough interest in the computer classes we had hoped to arrange but thank you to all of you who expressed an interest.

Finally, there is an old book case just inside the main door which we no longer require. If anyone would like it for a small donation, please speak to me.

Yours sincerely

Lindsay Gabriel
