Summer Newsletter No.1

Dear Parents/Carers

Welcome back to the start of the Summer term. I hope you all had a lovely Easter holiday! As you can see, our new library extension is in place and we are all thrilled to bits with the way it has turned out. The final touches are now taking place, together with the rest of the new carpets being laid.

I would like to say thank you to Terry Eaton (Mad Bert?s ? Wasteology Ltd) for the top soil he has provided free of charge for our new garden and to Scott Ford from the quarry at Weston, for the stone we needed for drainage. I am now looking for volunteers to come in with a wheelbarrow to move the stone/soil into the garden area! Please let me know if you are able to help. Many thanks.

Next week, we welcome Jamie Janus and Kara Rous in Year 2 and Elijah Rous in Reception. We are sure they will settle in quickly at Stawley and we wish them every happiness here.

Swimming
As mentioned at the end of last term, Class 1 together with year 3 are continuing with swimming on Wednesdays for the first half of the summer term. If your child is involved in this, please complete and return the attached slip with your payment within the next 2 weeks. Thanks you.

Years 5 and 6 Cycling Session
Next Tuesday 25th April, Michael Dennis, our School Travel Adviser, is running a cycling session here at the school to improve the children?s cycling skills and confidence, by offering fun-based playground cycling tasks. Please could all children in years 5 and 6 bring their bikes and cycle helmets to school, so they can take part. There is a leaflet attached providing more information about this session and I will need you to complete and return the consent form portion of this if your child is to take part. Thank you.

Years 5 and 6 Kilve Trip Meeting
There will be a meeting about the Kilve trip, at Bishops Lydeard School next Tuesday 25th April, 6.30pm start. I hope that parents and all the children taking part will be able to come along, as lots of information and a programme for the week will be provided by Darren from Kilve Court and David Stirzaker. It will also be your opportunity to raise any questions you may have. Please see David if you require directions.

Boyton School Visit
The visit by Class 2 from Boyton School on the last day of term was a great success and everyone got along famously. They kindly gave us some bulbs and trees which were planted and there are more details about this on our web-site if you would like to have a look. Our Class 2 will be making a return visit to Boyton School on Friday 9th June. Thank you to all of you who brought cakes, scones, etc on the day and came along to serve tea in the afternoon.

Easter Bingo
This was a great success with approximately £315 being raised! Many thanks to everyone who provided donations and prizes towards this and to those who helped on the evening. The next event is the Spring Sale at Appley Pavilion on Saturday 6th May. Can we please ask you for donations of jumble, bric-a-brac, toys, books, etc. towards this.

The Owl and the Pussycat Performance
For those pupils who want to take part in this with the other Taunton area schools, don?t forget that this will be held at Temple Methodist Church in Taunton on Tuesday 2nd May, from 6.30pm-8pm. The rehearsal is at 4.15pm and any children attending will need to wear school uniform and take a packed lunch. Tickets are £3 for adults and £1.50 concessions. A revised date for our own performance, which we are going to do for you at Appley Pavilion, is still being arranged and we will let you know about this shortly!

Please remember that the school will be closed on Monday 1st May for the Bank Holiday.
Yours sincerely

Lindsay Gabriel
